4th LFM Network Meeting: Enhancing LFM Strategy Development in North Macedonia
As part of SDC's Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans Programme, coordinated by Farmahem, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Economy (MAFWE), as a Country Partner Institution supported by the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC), organized the fourth meeting of the National LFM Network. Over 25 representatives from the science, practice, and policy sectors attended the workshop on March 28, 2024.

Initial landscape fire management (LFM) workshop in Sarajevo
On February 21, 2024, the initial workshop of the SDC’s Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme took place in Sarajevo, marking a significant step towards cooperation in combating landscape fires. The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management, and Forestry of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted the workshop, in cooperation with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC).

As part of the SDC's Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme, a Training for Trainers on Participatory Training Methods took place from December 18th to December 21st, 2023 in Skopje. The Regional Executive Agency (REA) organized this training, which was specifically targeted for the Country Project Staff and the team at the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC).
Landscape Fire Management Training: A Comprehensive Case Study on LFM in Greece
In the frame of the SDC’s Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme, the training on Landscape Fire Management (LFM) was held virtually on the 15th of December 2023. This training was organized by the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC), in collaboration with the Regional Executive Agency (REA). In the training, more than 30 Programme partners and representatives from various institutions in the Western Balkans (WB) participated.

The Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC) organized the Second Meeting of the Western Balkan LFM Regional Network on September 21, 2023, in Berovo, North Macedonia. This significant meeting was organized in the frame of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and coordinated by Farmahem with support from Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.
On September 19, 2023, the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC) organized an insightful Landscape Fire Management (LFM) capacity-building workshop in Berovo, North Macedonia. This event aimed to enhance participants' understanding of Landscape Fire Management (LFM) and its various aspects covering climate change, adaptive landscape management and practical insights from field visits to burnt areas in the Maleshevo region. Furthermore, the participants learned about Swiss expertise in integrating landscape fire management for forest protection, emphasizing effective fire prevention strategies and a participatory approach.

The workshop was organized by the LFMWB’s Country Partner Institution (CPI), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy (MAFWE) of North Macedonia, in collaboration with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC).

On August 17, 2023, the Landscape Fire Management Programme in the Western Balkans, coordinated by the Regional Executive Agency (REA-Farmahem), organized an educational visit to the Pelister National Park. The Networking and Communication Training, held from 12th to 16th of June 2023 in Belgrade, Serbia, marked a significant milestone in advancing networking skills, communication, and stakeholder involvement within the framework of the SDC’s Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme. The Regional Executive Agency (REA-Farmahem) of the LFMWB Programme organized the training in collaboration with Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.
The Initial Landscape Fire Management (LFM) regional workshop took place on May 19th, 2023 in Porto, Portugal marking the beginning of the Western Balkan LFM Regional Network's collaborative journey. Held as part of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme, the workshop was organized by the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC) in collaboration with the Regional Executive Agency (REA-Farmahem).
The Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme partners had an opportunity to attend the 8th International Wildland Fire Conference (IWFC) held in Porto, Portugal from 15th to 19th May 2023. The attendance of the 18 LFMWB Programme partners at the 8th IWFC in Porto was organized by the Regional Executive Agency (REA-Farmahem) of the LFMWB Programme, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

On April 13th, 2023, the Initial Landscape Fire Management (LFM) national workshop was held in Pristina as part of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD) of the Republic of Kosovo, as the LFMWB Country Partner Institution (CPI), organized the workshop in collaboration with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC) to introduce LFM stakeholders to the LFM concept and their roles in the LFM networks. The workshop aimed to contribute to the process of developing Country reports with LFM guidelines.

The Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) is a Programme financed by the Global Programme Climate Change and Environment (GPCCE) of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by Farmahem from Skopje (acting as a Regional Executive Agency (REA)) with backstopping support from Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.
Workshop on capacity-building need assessment organized for the LFMWB Programme partners
Regional Executive Agency (Farmahem) of the Landscape Fire Management Programme in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) with support of Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, RFMC and HAFL from 19th–22nd of December 2022 in Skopje, North Macedonia organized a Capacity-building Need Assessment workshop. The aim of the workshop was for the Programme partners to get familiar with the long-term vision and goals of the Programme with a focus on the core activities planned for 2023. Based on these activities, the capacity-building needs of the Programme partners were assessed.
International exposure of the LFMWB Programme
The overall goal of the SDC's Landscape Fire Management Programme in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) was presented in the joint workshop "Develop, adopt and transfer innovative solutions and actions to prevent and control wildfires". Moreover, the LFMWB Programme partners, the Regional Fire Monitoring Center and the Global Fire Monitoring Center, had presentations related to regional and global cross-boundary cooperation. The event was held on the 24th of October 2022 in Antalya, Turkey.
